Malaysia is counting on the tourists revenue. Last year the income from tourism was in the region of RM53.4 billion. The food and beverage was around RM9.3 billion.
The industry requires more specialist guides to promote tourism, especially the eco-tourism. The guides should be in position to explain the stories behind the places. As an example, the tourists to Chini and Frasers hill like to hear the relevant stories about these place. The local believe about Chini, the story about a town that was submerged in water. The Frasers Hill was a headline years ago when a billionaire from Thailand was missing whilst trekking in the forest.
For the eco-tourism, the ministry is looking forward to collaborate with related agencies and other ministries to build up expertise in the local and historical knowledge about a specific destination.
In the efforts to build up the attractions on food and beverage, the Fabulous 1 Malaysia food program was launched. The program features foods from 10 Asean countries.
