visit trengganu

A visit to trengganu is like a visit to the cradle of malay people. It is different from the metro Kuala Lumpur or Selangor state. There are many things to see, if you enjoy the adventure on a quiet island, you can go to Pulau Redang or Pulau Perhentian. You can also visit the Kenyir Lake, the biggest man-made lake or rather a dam in Malaysia. Maybe you enjoy strolling in the town of Kuala Trengganu.

Walking in Kuala Trengganu will open up the opportunities to know the traditional culture of the local Malay. This is the heart of the songket weaving. Beautiful and colorfull songket are weaved by hand to create the original material used widely in the Malay traditional dress.


The Crystal Mosque

Another place of interest is the Islamic Civilisation Complex. It is located about 15 minutes drive from the center of the town. You can find miniature of the famous buildings of Islamic origins. You can see the miniature Taj Mahal, The Dome of the Rock Jerusalem, the Masjid Haram in Mecca and many more. The Malaysian origin is the crystal mosque.



If you like to touch in a bit of historical facts, the you can visit the Trengganu Museum. It is built on the traditional Malay architecture in the heart of the town.

Kenyir Trengganu is a Duty Free Zone

Kenyir is the biggest man-made lake in South East Asia. The Trengganu State is planning to turn it into a top class holiday destination over the next 2 years.

To support the initiative, the state is injecting rm100 mil for the makeover of Kenyir.

Some of the attractions are:

1. It has over 340 islands rich in fauna and flora. These were hills before it was flooded.
2. The development include construction of hotels, chalets, theme park, orchid garden and fruit orchards.
3. It will be urned to shopping paradise, catering for both the high end holiday makers and sho-string travelers.

The duty free-free complex, shop houses and condominium will be constructed in the next 2 years.

Even before the work starts, there are voice of concerns, an environmentalists, Dr Azman wants the state to carry out a study on the impacts. The rich eco system of Kenyir is the home for 8000 specifies of flowers, 2500 species of plants and over 300 fresh water fishes. The concern is the effects of the development on these flora and fauna.
