THE Esplanade field in Penang was transformed into a mini Japan when thousands of people thronged the place for the Bon Odori Festival.
There was a myriad of colours at the field as many came clad in yukata and other traditional Japanese outfits to blend in with the occasion on Saturday.
Some turned up as early as 5pm for the event which featured, among others, traditional folk performances, games and stalls selling Japanese food.
Some youngsters even paraded around in vibrant cosplay costumes from various Japanese anime series, complete with coloured wigs and fancy footwear.
The crowd sang and danced along to traditional folk performances by various local and Japanese groups and individuals from schools and organisations.
The Penang Japanese School performed the Taiko drum while selected Malaysian students studying Japanese language at SM Sains Tuanku Syed Putra (Perlis), SM Sultan Abdul Halim (Kedah) and Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Kubang Pasu (Kedah) performed the Soran Bushi dance.
A 22-member dance group from Japan, the Samurai Maeda Toshiie Ondo Mai, performed the Yosakoi dance.

One follows the road to Ayer Tawar, then Bruas, the second, much preferred by local people who drive a car, goes along the coast Pantai released, 35 from Pangkor, here a very nice and clean hotel. This road is very quiet and scams through the hills but is never busy.
At the junction of Highway 1, you can directly to Kuala Gula and Kuala Kurau. It passes through flat land and plantations. Kuala Kurau is 20 km away.
In Kuala Kurau you do not have the choice, you need to go to international parity, there's hotels in the city and follow Highway 1 in Penang. This is not a pleasant bicycle path. It is a road busy with many cars and trucks, and many small towns before it comes to the junction at Bukit Mertajam.

Penang Hill, a tourist attraction located on the island of Penang in Malaysia was a place that I always wanted to visit and finally, imagine my excitement when I got to experience change!
