Sultan of Pahang

Pahang is one of the smaller states in Malaysia with her own Sultan.

The sultan's official residence is in Pekan, a small town situated about 4 hour drive from the capital Kuala Lumpur.





Previous Sultan.

Before the present Sultan Ahmad, his father was the rule of Pahang. The Sultan is a constitutional monarch, that mean the Sultan does not have the executive power.

The full name is Sultan Abu Bakar Riayatuddin Al-Muadzam Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Abdullah Al-Mutassim Billah Shah GCMG, born in May 29 and passed away on 1904 – May 7, 1974. He was the fourth sultan of modern Pahang.

He was born at Istana Hinggap, the old Pekan, the second son to Sultan Abdullah Al-Mutassim Billah Shah by his wife, Che Kalsom binti Tun Abdullah. He succeeded his father in 1932.




The Present Sultan

The present Sultan (now 2010) is Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah ibni Sultan Abu Bakar Riayatuddin Al-Muadzam Shah. He was born on 24 October 1930 at Istana Mangga Tunggal at the royal town of Pekan. He was made the seventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia from 29 March 1979 to 25 April 1984, and fifth Sultan of modern Pahang.

He is the only son of Sultan Abu Bakar with his official and royal consort, Tengku Ampuan Besar Fatimah binti Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Kadasallah Shah.
