Penang Botanic Garden

Penang Botanic Garden is going to attract more visitors with its largest water lily. The species, Victoria Amazonia will soon find the new home at the garden.
The plan has the leaves as big as 3 meters in diameter, and the lily will be put in the newly constructed lily pond and it part of the project the upgrade the garden.

The Penang Botanical Garden is expected to attract about 1 million visitors this year.

About the garden
The garden was among the earliest garden in Malaysia. It was initially set up with different purposes. During the time of spices trade in 1700s, the English wanted to impose its presence in the Malacca Strait, so they chose two strategic location, Singapore on the south and Penang on the North.
The Garden was set up as a research center for spices, so logically it was known as spices garden. As the spices trading loss its importance, the garden was transformed to what it is today, a recreational garden for both the local as well as the foreign visitors.
