Kenyir Trengganu is a Duty Free Zone

Kenyir is the biggest man-made lake in South East Asia. The Trengganu State is planning to turn it into a top class holiday destination over the next 2 years.

To support the initiative, the state is injecting rm100 mil for the makeover of Kenyir.

Some of the attractions are:

1. It has over 340 islands rich in fauna and flora. These were hills before it was flooded.
2. The development include construction of hotels, chalets, theme park, orchid garden and fruit orchards.
3. It will be urned to shopping paradise, catering for both the high end holiday makers and sho-string travelers.

The duty free-free complex, shop houses and condominium will be constructed in the next 2 years.

Even before the work starts, there are voice of concerns, an environmentalists, Dr Azman wants the state to carry out a study on the impacts. The rich eco system of Kenyir is the home for 8000 specifies of flowers, 2500 species of plants and over 300 fresh water fishes. The concern is the effects of the development on these flora and fauna.
