Kampung Kuantan is situated in Malaysia and it is unique as it is a site for firefly watching. Thousands of tourist flock to the village to see and experience how hundred thousands of insects, the fireflies light up the surrounding of the river with their flickering lights.

The area is now converted to a firefly sanctuary. It is gazetted to preserve the unique habitats and protect it against the farmers who have been illegally cutting trees and planting commercial plants in the area.

The effect has to be successful, otherwise the heritage will be loss forever. Lately, there has been reports on the dwindling number of fireflies in the area.
