Malaysian Kite

Kite flying was the traditional game in Malaysia flied by the old and the young peoples. The farmers in the states of Kelantan and Kedah, had some time to relax after the hard work of harvesting their rice fields.

The rice fields were drained of the water, and after the rice stalks were cut off, you have a open large plain fields with nothing on it. It became an ideal venue for the Malaysian kites flying. The peoples of Kelantan know the kite as "wau", and the most famous is the wau bulan, or moon kite. The wau or the kite is used as the symbol and logo for the official airline of Malaysia MAS.

The moon kit obtains its name from its shape. It resembles a crescent moon or half moon. The Kelantanese took kites flying seriously. They spent time to make the kite and some time, they have the kite flying festival and competition.

Kite festival in Johor
In Feb 2011, Johor held the world's kite flying festival. The festival attracted enthusiasts from countries such as India, Thai, Japan and Australia.

The representative made his kite with the design concepts based on tradition. For example, the ship of the dessert was based on the traditional camels that ply the desserts carrying the load of goods on their backs.

One of the participants was saying.." the kites look lovely in flight. It is not only a pretty pictures, but represents our history and culture".

Kite flying festival

Kite flying in Malaysia in Malaysia is catching up even among the young generation. In one of the park in the city of Kuala Lumpur, the fan flock the park on the week ends and causing the massive jam in the nearby road.
