Petaling Jaya Forest

It may be a surprise to many that Petaling Jaya, a thriving residential area, is promoting educational forest. I discovered that in the New Strait Time on Monday.

1.BUKIT Gasing is a popular spot for city folks and hikers to feel the touch of the jungle. They will normally come in the in the mornings, evenings and also during the weekends. Bukit Gasing was the center of the controversial and tussle between the public and the Government, when the government wanted to develop the hill.

The total area of Bukit Gasing covers more than 100ha and the Petaling Jaya side of the hill covers 36ha. The Petaling Jaya side of the hill was gazetted as a green belt in 1961.

2.KOTA Damansara community forest is a secondary forest. Gazetted in 1898, it is part of the oldest forest reserve in Peninsular Malaysia. Filled with exotic plant species the community forest is located in the Kota Damansara township.

3.THE Kota Damansara Wetlands has become a spot for exotic birds such as egrets, herons, milky storks and other migratory water birds.
