Indonesian Culture in Penang

The Indonesian Cultural Festival is current being held in Penang. The show is being organised jointly between Indonesian Consulate and the Penang Tourism Development.

The festival is a show case of Indonesian Culture intended to have the following objectives:

1. Getting more people to visit Penang, both from Indonesia as well as Malaysian.

2. Develop Indonesian Tourism by having more Malaysian to visit Indonesia.

3. Develop mutual understanding.

This is the first festival of this kind and it is attracting a good crowd, and it is being held at Queensbay Mall car park. The visitors are being treated with the cultural performances, savour exotic Indonesian food and marvel at the intricate handicraft on display during the one-day festival.

He hoped the festival could become an annual event in Penang just like the Bon Odori Festival and the Oktoberfest.

Indonesia Consul-General Chilman Arisman said the idea came about in a discussion with Lim two months ago.

Traditional music: Cultural performers in native costumes playing the angklung , an Indonesian musical instrument.

Among the present was the Penang Chief Minister and Japan Consul-General to Penang Tetsuro Kai, Thailand Consul-General to Penang Voradet Viravakinh, state Assembly Speaker Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain and state Tourism Development and Culture Committee chairman Danny Law.
