1. An introduction of Mataking Island
Mataking is an island not far from Sipadan, in Sabah Malaysia. It is larger than Sempadan, though not as famous, located to the north of Mabul.
To reach Mataking:
a. From Tawau by road to Semporna - about 1 hour.
b. Semporna to Mataking by boat - about 40 minutes.
Mataking has plenty to offer. It is an excellent location for divers, holiday makers and honeymooners. The best time to venture the sea is during low tide. This enable the visitors to walk on the sandy beaches to the nearby islands.

You may like to climb the observatory to get a clear view of the island. You can see the "underwater post office" , when a wooden cargo ship was intentionally sank to create an artificial coral reef. The ship ship also acts as an underwater post office.

b. Excellent diving site at the ship wreck post. A norwegian freighter was sank delibrately here to act as a artificial reef. The site is known to be rich with marine varietes such as scorpion fish, crab-eyed gobies, cleaner-shrimps and turtles.
c. Some prepare to lay lazy on the beach with a couple of favorite nobels.
d. Those who seek activities can go for group activities such as kayaking, beach volleyball and treasure hunt or mini golf.
e. The indoor activities include karaoke, batek painting and cooking lessons.
f. A trip to the nearby island of Kalapuan will see how the local catch the fish. You can have a feel of the culture of the people.
For many years the coral was affected by fish bombing. The local had resorted to this quick profit method to catch large amount of fish at the expense of the environment.
