Penang Botanic Gardens

Penang Bamboo Garden

Penang Botanical Garden is set to expand its boundary for visitors with it new bamboo garden. Bamboos are found in many varieties in Malaysia, ranging from a small scrub to the tall giants of 20 meters high.

The visit to Penang Botanical Garden were up to surprises when last week. The visitors who expected to see a normal garden were met with the annual penang floral fest with a large number of Flowers display and traditional performance.

Despite the wet weather, more than 70,000 visitors, both the local Malaysian as well as the oversea tourist came to visit the Penang Botanic Gardens. The number were expected to be higher if not for the rain.

Penang had been stepping up his effort to attract more tourist to the island. Beside this Penang Floral show, the state had held various other fest, the Penang Horse show and the Chingay magic were some of the recent events.


The large number of visitors reflect the interest in the flowers. Many came with all sort of questions, ranging from 'where to buy the flowers' to 'how to grow them'














There are more than 500 orchids on exhibit coming from all over the country. The orchids made a strong presence in the exhibition and had attracted a large interest from the visitors.

The Penang Floral Fest introduced a unique flower, known locally as the “Indian lady flower”. It is in fact a kind of orchid that is known to flower when it is nearing to the festival of Thaipusam.

The plant is from the species of Genus Coelogyne and had never been exhibited in any Malaysian Festival before..
