Holidays and Employers

The start of new school session on 3 Jan 2012, marked the new working year for this year. However this is not the end of holiday season.

In most western countries, the boxing day mark the end of holiday session and the beginning of the working year. This is not so for Malaysian. The multi-ethic nature of the country makes the holidays in predictable. Malaysia is one of the top 10 countries that has the record breaking number of holidays. Overall, they have 50 national, school and state holidays.

This year, the employers are feeling the effects of the holidays. The Chinese new year is on 23 Jan. There are a few few more holidays around the date, the Federal Day on 1 Feb, The Prophet's birthday on 5 Feb and the Thaipusam on 7 Feb.

Many of the employers and companies are feeling a season of low productivity during the holiday time. Many representative of the employers are arguing against the large number of holidays. Some even suggest that the religious related holidays to be on personal basis based on the workers belief. It does not be a holiday for those who do not celebrate it.
